Farmers Protest: Jail DIG of Punjab resigns in support of farmers
Allegations of corruption have been made
Lakhminder Singh Jakhar is a resident of Abohar in Fazilka district. An interesting incident related to his tenure is that when Jakhar was the Superintendent of the Patiala Jail, he returned the death summons of terrorist Balwant Singh Rajoana. He was also suspended for corruption charges. He served as a Captain in the 14 Punjab (Nabha Akal) regiment as short service commission officer from 1989- 1994 and later joined the Punjab police.
This is the reason for resignation
Farmers have been performing peacefully for 18 days, no one listened to their suffering. It is unfortunate that an officer cannot go beyond that under rules and regulations, so I have decided. I have spoken to my family, I have also spoken to my 61 year old mother, she lives in the village. I am proud of this, I am the son of a farmer. Whatever I have today is for that reason, so I took this decision.
